Groupe Newton:a remarkable family epic

The origins of the Newton Group are rooted in the family history of a stay-at-home mother of six, who decided, at the age of 49, to reinvent herself by embracing a career in real estate. At the time, Nancy Newton had no idea of the incredible adventure which lay in store, and which would indelibly trace the course of the future professional life of her husband, four of her children, plus one grandson.

In 1973, Nancy Newton was a relatively unknown entity in her community when she decided to transform her life by adopting an entirely new professional identity. Choosing the realm of real estate came easy: it was a perfect match for her love of homemaking and her desire to accompany families, like her own, as they made what is frequently their most significant and life-altering purchase.

Neighbourhood residents were impressed and reassured by her high ethical business standards. With her strong entrepreneurial and compassionate human relations skills, Nancy was an instant success and soon earned the affectionate moniker of “Queen of Real Estate” in N.D.G. This business success was due in part to her ability to provide her clients with a quintessential woman’s point-of-view, framed within a balanced perspective: the uniquely empathetic Nancy Newton touch.

By 1990, Nancy Newton Sr., now an experienced and established real estate broker, distinguished herself by ranking third among 1,100 Royal LePage brokers in Quebec. Buoyed by this acknowledgement of success and the recognition of her peers, she opted to create her own real estate brokerage firm, with the support of her husband Ernest and her daughters Deborah, Dale and Janice.
In 1995 Nancy Jr., the family’s youngest member, joined the team.

In subsequent years, the success of the family firm -- initially known as Nancy Newton Realties -- gained remarkable momentum, eventually garnering more than 13% of the NDG real estate market, while its enviable reputation spread throughout many adjoining neighbourhoods in Montreal.

In 2000, the family was approached by the VP of Royal LePage with an offer to join its NDG office. Perceiving this as an opportunity to enhance the firm’s scope and status, the Newtons opted instead to purchase the centrally-located franchise in Monkland Village. And thus was born: Royal LePage Groupe Newton.

Initially, the newly-minted real estate agency welcomed 44 brokers. With the Newtons’ iconic determination and dedication, this number quickly grew to 62.
Then, in 2005, another adventurous family member decided to join the team: Matthew Larsen -- the grandson of Nancy Sr. and Ernest, Janice’s son.

With this new addition, the family firm of Newton brokers now spanned three generations. Matthew was fortunate to have had the benefit of training and working during his formative years with his grandmother, Nancy Newton Sr. until her retirement in 2009, after an exceptionally long and illustrious career.

In 2012, Groupe Newton decided to capitalize on an opportunity to sell its franchise. Following this astute corporate decision, the Newton brokers set their sights on expanding their operations in Montreal’s western real estate market. With the consolidated breadth of knowledge gleaned as brokerage owners, the team could now concentrate on providing its invaluable expertise to a substantially enhanced client base.

As has always been the case, their comprehensive real estate services are enthusiastically dispensed with the definitive trademark of Newton proficiency and passion.

Today, Groupe Newton operates under the Royal LePage Village banner, enviably positioned as the largest Royal LePage franchise in Quebec, and is delighted to welcome clients to its newly renovated premises located at 6100 Monkland Avenue, at the corner of Hingston in NDG.

It’s indeed heartwarming to know that the Newton brokerage team has continued to maintain its congenial presence at center-stage of the Monkland Village since 1973: the landmark year when Nancy Newton sold her first house!
